I’m not sure why you thought you could do without the O, after all you’ve read about the LOC method, but you need to find some and put it on your head, ASAP.
You have to re-moisturize your twa twice a day– while others talk about doing it just once a day, every other day, or even just twice a week– because you need a proper sealant. No, that moisturizer that’s oilier than your leave-in doesn’t count. (Spoiler: It’s main ingredient is glycerin and your hair pitches a fit over it.) And that mineral oil sheen spray left over from your relaxed days will do exactly nothing.
Essential oils are essential for a reason, but it can be a little overwhelming deciding which is right for you. There are so many to choose from. Coconut, grapeseed, almond, EVOO (spoiler: that stuff itches you like crazy), argan, vegetable–yes, girl. Someone even said they use vegetable oil.
That’s why you need to do your research. Listen to a wide range of women’s experiences–the good and the bad. Learn about ingredients, their benefits, and their side effects. Some people need heavy oils or butters to retain moisture while you may only need a little help from a light oil, depending on your porosity. Any good oil will help “seal” the moisture in your hair, slowing its evaporation. It should have key nutrients to strengthen the hair and provide shine, just for starters.
You don’t have to spend a lot trying to DIY the perfect concoction either. You can find very good hair & body oil complexes, which include multiple essential oils, for a decent price at the beauty supply store. Read the labels and make sure the good stuff is at the top of the ingredients list. Once you find the right combination of leave-in conditioner and oil, your moisture balance for the week will greatly improve.
